Why is reading important?
Reading is crucial for early childhood development because it enhances language skills, stimulates cognitive development, fosters imagination and creativity, and builds a strong foundation for academic success.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends reading with your child at least 15 minutes a day to foster early literacy and strengthen the parent-child bond.
What free reading programs are available?
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library partnership provides free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, promoting early childhood literacy and a love of reading. Click HERE for more information.
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages parents to read 1,000 books with their child before they start kindergarten, fostering early literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading. Check with your local library for more resources. They usually have tracking sheets and prizes for kids. Click HERE for more information.
